I'm going through this issue too. On most job postings, HR departments
& hiring managers are still advertising for MCDBA b/c (I think) they
haven't heard of the new cert track, so if you're looking for another
job, you might want to do MCDBA. But if you're sticking around your
current job for a while, and if your company will use only SQL 2005
from here on out, I wouldn't worry about MCDBA. You don' thave to
learn SQL 2000 first to understand SQL 2005, although I'm sure it would
help. Just jump right in.

Hi. I am confused as to which certification to pursue. I am new to the
database
environment and need to know which certification to pursue MCDBA or
MCITP: Database Administrator. I currently do minor stuff on SQL 2000 but we
will be doing all new databases on SQL 2005, so I sort of have to get to
grips with both.
Do I have to learn SQL 2000 first in order to learn SQL 2005 ?
Would it be better to do a MCDBA certification first then a MCITP :
Database Administrator, or jump straight into the latter?
Is one better than the other or do you have to have both to be
marketable?
The one advantage I gathered from the Microsoft site is that the MCITP only
has 3 exams so it should be quicker and cheaper.
TIA
