Re: Confused with MCSE requirements

wow, just wow. You couldn't have been more accurate. I passed 294 today
with an 850. I failed horribly on 297 however. I found that I was spending
WAY to much time reading the question. Before I knew it, I was out of time
on the "testlet" and had to rush through a few questions.

I don't think the material is the problem, as much as learning to deal with
the time limits.

Not really. Its a matter of focus and presentation. -294 focuses on the
technical solutions of implementing Active Directory and associated systems.
-297 really focuses on knowing what elements to be looking for in a client
environment in detemrining what the requirements are and given the set of
requirements, choosing the appropriate implementation approach to a problem.

Many people have no problem at all on -294 and then really have difficulty
in completing -297 because knowing the material of how to turn a feature on
doesnt neccessarily mean you know under what circumstances you would use a
given feature.

I've been doing some preliminary studying on 294 and 297. They both appear
to be covering the same subject matter in a round about way. Seems to me
that if you know the 294 subject matter inside and out, then the 297 should
be fairly simple.

I am currently an MCSA, but I am confused with the elective or 'options'
available to me. I was looking over the certification planner in the MCP
site, and was curious what the Option 1 and Option 2 are. Apparently
there
are two different tracks one can take to become an MCSE. Can anyone here
elaborate on the differences?

I have currently passed the following exams. I know I need to complete
294
for a core requirement, but not sure what to do after that.

210
290
291
293
284

Client elective - Check
Open elective - Check
Core elements - (once you pass 294) Check

It looks to me that you will need just the design elective....
You can take 297, 298, 219, 220, 221 or 226

As I remember, the two paths were for a new credential or an upgrade from
2000 MCSA/MCSE, or maybe it was upgrade from NT, but I can't be sure since
they don't appear on my cert planner anymore.
