Templates allow you to save standard settings and import them into any
local or remote policy. This means you don't have to configure your
standard settings over and over and possibly run the risk of forgetting
something. Templates can be applied to a local machine in a workgroup or
imported into group policy for the site, domain, or OU. You can apply
them in a test environment to make sure they work properly and then apply
them quickly to the production environment when you have the bugs ironed
out. You can take setting that work in one organization and apply them
to another similar organization. Bottom line is templates save time,
reduce mistakes, and provide a backup of proper settings.
