It doesn't surprise me. These are probably fairly common experiences, and
there aren't any tactics that work, except for death therapy.

Always some bureaucrat in the way of 'progress', and always someone capable
of change frustrated by bureacratic stalemate maneuvering. Chick with big
tights gets the promotion versus the guy who's done the work for 20 years
and would do it right.

A wonderful system in place to force everyone to be at odds with everyone
else over unimportant things. Pack of dogs snarling over some piece of
rotten meat.

People trying to get ahead or prevent falling behind or screw the other guy
or avoid being screwed.

Should you be more aggressive? Should you be more passive? Does either one
make a difference? Is crime the answer? Is hard work the answer? Does either
one make a difference? No.

In the end, it's a monumental waste of time to break even, or wind up where
you started, or wind up in a worse position. Work harder, buy more things,
do things to make more money, become overqualified, have less time, break
down under the pressure, work harder, buy more things...

Cumulatively, humans are stupid, and it's not going to change soon. The
Montgomery Burns effect - every disease imaginable all piled up at the door,
so he doesn't die.

I've learned to get things done regardless of the feminists.

People are going to sit here in this group arguing left and right about
whether the certificates are of any use until the end of time. And maybe one
of them will figure out the truth. The rest will swear that their way is
better until they drop dead. Because they are afraid to admit something to
themselves and the world: That they're no smarter than anyone else.

Knowing this fact doesn't solve the problem, but it does turn on a light
bulb or two.
