I've used Exam Cram books for all MCAD exams. My experience is that you
should read them after completing Main books, just 2/3 days before the
actual
exam as they contain important points/topics in a condensed manner.
For example, when preparing for 70-315, I first read the Amit Kalani
Training Guide and 2 days before the exam I read the Exam Cram book for
70-315.
Right now I'm reading Enterprise Development with Visual Studio .NET, UML,
and MSF by John Erik Hansen and Carsten Thomsen ISBN:1590590422 Apress.
It
is very interesting and informative though I don't know how much it
relates
to the exam. But it certainly gives a fair deal of information about
designing Enterprise Solutions. You might want to take a look if possible.
When do you plan to take the exam? How much time you are alloting for
preperations?
I plan to take the exam in around 1 month's time maybe sooner depending on
my learning and findings and the amount of time I can spend studying on the
subject.
Many folks say this is a very tough exam, but that's what they said for
70-320. It is also still unclear what is covered in the actual exam. I will
need further investigation and once I buy a couple training guides,
hopefully this will give me a real technical overview of the objectives in
great detail. Then I will be able to identify how much studying I will need
to pass.
When I was studying for 70-316, 70-320 and 70-315 the training guides were
very clear cut, Amit Kalani all the way which was the feeling I got from
many people who had read Amit's books and boy were they right!
I tried the MS Press books, well one actually and it sent me to sleep every
time I picked it up! great for bedtime reading by the way ;)
So now I am at 70-300, it's a shame Amit did not write a book for this exam
because I would have bought it without reading any reviews. Now I am getting
very mixed feelings after reading many reviews on a relatively small handful
of books that claim to be 70-300 training guides.
I will get my toes wet because I need MCSD sooner rather than later, so will
probebly buy Enterprise Development with Visual Studio .NET, UML, and MSF by
John Erik Hansen and Carsten Thomsen ISBN:1590590422 Apress as you suggest
for the starting book later today. Then probebly go for the Exam Cram books
which most people rate fairly highly.
I've had my fingers burned too many times when buying books from on-line
book stores such as Amazon as you can't flick through them to see if their
up to the job or not.
Cheers
Simon.
