i just failed 70-300 with VUE testing centre (in United Kingdom). i have taken a total of 4 previous exams (full MCAD + 70-229 elective for MCSD). all passed and no errors with the client computer i used. until now!
I had a very similar experience to yours. my system crashed during the first section with some standard unhandled (haha!) Win32 errors, then it bombed out. the one other user in the room had the same thing happen. the staff rebooted and restarted my exam for me, which seemed to carry on where i'd left off (except the order of the possible answers had changed around!). at the end, i noticed that i didn't get the same chance to comment/review as i did on the next sections.
i don't remember anything odd about the numbering of the questions like you described, but i didn't take much notice really. i will next time!
the exam is certainly very different from the other exams. the ability to be able to print-out the case studies to enable one to read/refer/highlight would be welcomed. surely this is what you'd do if it were 'real life'. the fiddly interface and mice that never have their mouse-wheel enabled are purely a hinderence to the overall process, imho. augment this with the way "microsoft's way" of doing things is what's required, rather than the "technically correct" and add to that w/ the system crashing and not being able to easily refer to how much time you have left PER QUESTION ...you've got yourself a very low chance of getting a good pass mark i feel.
some say 70-300 is the hardest. i think it depends on your experience --not just amount of, but also type of.
at least i registered for the 2nd chance free offer :)
