I used the Microsoft Press book for the 70-290 and it served me well.
Also last-minuted prepped with the ExamCram book as an added
precaution. Passed with an 850.

I guess my biggest single piece of advice I can give you is learning to
examine each answer choice carefully and with a critical eye when you
take these tests. Some choices are close to the proper solution but
wrong in some respects. Make sure your answer fulfills all aspects of
the solution - for example, if the question instructs you to give an
account minimum permissions to perform a task, it's almost guaranteed
you will not be adding it to the Domain Admins or local Admins group to
fulfill the task... Or if a question states that you should perform a
task with the least amount of administrative effort, eliminate the
choices that would require a lot of time or effort (i.e., adding 100
accounts individually one by one via Active Directory Users and
Computers) and identify the choices that would automate the process or
simplify things (importing the 100 accounts using CSVDE for example...)

Hope this is helpful...
