If it is indeed a class B address, your subnetting is correct - 64 subs
and 1024 hosts for the first subnet, 128 subs and 512 hosts for the
second. If the original address is a class A address (with a default
subnet mask of 255.0.0.0), it then does indeed come out to 2^14 or
16,384 subnets for the first address and 2^15 or 32,768 subnets for the
    second.

It's all depenendent on what the original address / class you are
subnetting is as stated in the question.

I've seen plenty of mistakes in all of these prep books, particularly
in the sample tests / Q & A sections. Very frustrating to say the least
but sometimes you just have to shake your head and move on to the next
    question.
