First out, let me say that I am an Indian citizen. My point was that,
being Indian, I know how easily the information he wanted is
available. Just a phone call away.
The thing that really galls me regarding this is the fact that already he
gets exams at a big discount - only $50, which is less than what students in
the US pay (I would bet that the average US student makes less money than the
average Indian programmer), and yet he wants *me* to find him bigger
discounts!
He should be helping me find discounts.
If I got all my exams at $50 each, I would be taking exams every other month
and would have over 12 Microsoft certifications by now instead of 6.
I am more than willing to help people, as you can tell by my previous posts,
but this is way too much. The guy does have chutzpah, but I ain't going to
tell him how to get bigger discounts. Perhaps I'm jealous that he gets his
exams so cheaply already.
The money an Indian makes cannot be compared to the money a US citizen
makes, simply because there is a very large difference in the currency
conversion. 1 USD ~ 50 Indian Rupees. You can buy much more with $1
than you can with 1 Re.
This is probably the reason why MS exams in India are priced
affordably (by some standards, not mine. Personally I find them highly
priced). Pricing exams according to $150 would put them out of reach
of 90% of programmers.
You needn't be jealous... the grass on the other side seems greener.
It really upsets me that Indians, who are already taking over US programming
jobs because their costs are cheaper, are being made even more cheaper by
none other than Microsoft by having to pay less for their certification exams
than we do.
Their costs are cheaper because of the same reason. The value gets
multiplied by 50.
By giving them lower cost exams, Microsoft is contributing to programmers in
India being able to charge less than US programmers and taking American jobs.
No, I don't think so. M$ is just doing what makes good business
sense.
(Yes, I have lost jobs to Indians - it was even mentioned in an article a
couple years back in MCP Magazine [now Redmond Magazine].)
The thing is - Don't hate Indians for that. Hate the US companies who
would rather save a buck, than employ good local talent. Why do you
think Outsourcing took off ? Because companies in the US (and other
countries) felt that it was much more economical to pay a person in
the third world $5 per hour, rather than have to pay their citizens
$20 per hour for the same work. And the person sitting at the other
side of the world was just as happy - because now he had a job... and
it paid much better than what he could've got otherwise.
P.S. to Cerebrus: Did you ever call Te$tk!ng in Pakistan?
No, why would I need to ? But, we at CertGuard are going to call them
one day... to give them the good news that they've been exterminated.
That'll be the day ! ;-)
