1) there won't be upgrade exams from 2.0 to 3.0. One of the things I've been
trying to emphasize recently on my blog and other places is that there will
not be upgrades going forward in the TS space. Why? Because a TS credential
should tie 1:1 with a specific version of a specific technology. As such,
you're never "upgrading" your TS cert. You're simply obtaining new ones.
We are actively ramping for the 3.0 exams (WF, WCF, WPF) but we're not at a
point yet where I can give you projected timeframes.
2) wrapping problems - I hadn't even noticed <g>! But no - I don't even
know who to contact about the problem.

Just curious -- are there going to be upgrade exams from 2.0 to 3.0, just as
there are for 1.x to 2.0, or are the 3.0 exams just going to be on the new
subjects only?
Is there a timeframe yet (i.e. betas in quarter x of year y)?
Brushan:
Personally, I would recommend taking the MCAD/MCSD exams if you are
currently dealing with .NET Framework 1.x. IIRC, the 70-431 exam can be used
as an elective, so you can earn an MCTS (in SQL Server 2005) at the same time
as your MCAD. If you are currently dealing with .NET Framework 2.0/Visual
Studio 2005, then go for the MCTS/MCPD exams. There are a few differences
between the two.
Off topic: Howard, I noticed you have the same wrapping problem with the
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups site that I have.
Do you have any clout in getting them to fix it?

Ok - so I see that you are preparing for your MCAD - have you sat for any of
the exams yet? If you are well into your MCAD, I would advise that you
finish it, then upgrade to the new gen certifications. Otherwise, I would
advise that you simply start with the new generation certifications and
obtain your TS in either Windows, web, or distributed apps. You can then
obtain your PRO certification along one of those same lines. When the .NET
3.0 TS certifications come out, you can sit for those regardless.

Hi Howard,
Thank you for your reply. I think I am still not much clear about whether it
is worth to go for MCAD at this stage.

Hi BK,
the MCAD is a .NET Framework 1.1 credential path - and it always will be
since going forward you will want to obtain either TS or PRO credentials
under the new generation program. I would like to address your question
about .NET 3.0 so that you can make a better decision about how you would
like to proceed with obtaining your base .NET certification. We are planning
to release a set of TS credentials focused around the different .NET 3.0
technologies (WPF, WF, WCF). Therefore, .NET 2.0 to .NET 3.0 is not like
.NET 1.1 to .NET 2.0, so you're not losing any ground no matter which path
you take.

Hi All,
I am planning for MCAD in the coming months. I think I should get my basics
cleared about the exam before I pay for it.
As much as I can understand MCAD is still a .NET 1.1 exam, which can be
upgraded to .NET 2.0 (i.e. to MCPD). Is this correct?
Having .NET 3.0 in the vicinity, is it worth appearing for MCAD now?
My plans are going for MCAD first and then upgrade to MCPD later.
Any suggestion ?
Thanks
Bhushan.
