Thanks again simon. I can navigate and browse the internet with no problems
using both IE and aol (my internet provider).

I dont know if im behind a proxy server, do you know how I can determin
that? should I disable the proxy server setting under lan setttings?

I received your screenshot, thankyou for that.

I am getting confused as to whether you are sitting behind a proxy server or
not. Forget about firewalls. Most firewalls will not block port 80. If they
did you would not be able to browse the internet.

It is strange you are getting http 404 for the document at:-
http://www.fold1.com/SOAP/foldcalc.php?wsdl
as this address is valid. Can you successfully browse the internet with your
current settings?

One thing I will say, is I don't think WSDL in VS.NET 2003 supports proxy
servers. In other words, it will not authenticate requests using your
configured settings under control panel. I know this because I used to use a
proxy server and it caused no end of grief. We have a firewall now instead
so it is no longer a problem for us.

So you need to be sure whether you are sitting behind a proxy server or not,
as your problem is all about connectivity issues regarding the proxy server
settings I would of thought. From what you are saying (the problems you are
getting) I would guess you are behind a proxy server.

Regards
Simon.

LOL, this is strange now. Under lan settings i've entered my ip address as
opposed to a proxy server ip adress, that resulted in web services being
discovered very quickly, however the add reference button is still
disabled
and I now get this message:

There was an error downloading
'http://www.fold1.com/SOAP/foldcalc.php?wsdl'.
The request failed with HTTP status 404: Object Not Found.

what I dont understand is that I can see all the methods for the web
service
but I cant press the add reference button.
