Re: SBS2000 Fax Client and Vista

Good point but as a Microsoft reseller, We tried Vista at its release on SBS
2000 and to this day I have seen no official warning from Microsoft that SBS
2000 fax does not work with Vista. XP will soon go the way of the Dodo and
yet I find it hard to believe that a future SBS product's fax solution wont
work with it.
We installed SBS2000 in 2002 - so it really isnt a hard stretch to think
that a major feature like shared fax support would be written out of the
replacement operation system to XP - and certainly not in such a small amount
of time.
If there was some warning that came with Vista - of the features that were
not supported on earlier servers - at least the public would be forwarned.
Instead countless hours and days of testing for nothing - this is simply
unacceptable. Microsoft knew they were dropping the support of Shared fax on
SBS 2000 - they should have documented it !
I might add that Shared fax is the only feature in SBS 2000 that I have
found does not work with Vista.
Anyway, thats my 5c worth
I hope that Micosoft does read these groups sometimes ; )

Perhaps the smart choice would have been to investigate whether or not to purchase machines with Vista would be compatible with all the features you need
There are still plenty of options for purchasing machines with XP.

And no, microsoft does not read these (well very rarely anyway)
I can tell you with 99.9% certainty, that there will be no more changes, updates, upgrades for SBS 2000

Ah yes but I thought SBS 2000 was a server product that worked with ALL
Microsoft clients - silly me - I forgot that MS want to force people to
upgrade.
The fix would be simple and clearly is a design plan to hurt their loyal
server base.
I would imagine a few lines of code would allow for the support.
Come on Microsoft - some of us are waiting for SBS 2008 before we upgrade.....

ISA client was written to support ISA 2000 - surely the same could be done
for the Fax client support.
If MS is reading this post - please understand that all you are doing is
allowing others to discover 3rd part fax solutions - all for the sake of a
tiny amount of recoding. I hope a futher patch of Vista SP1 will make us all
happy : )
