Adjusting the memory of the database is like doing a tune up of a race care
You select a base number, based on the amount of RAM in your box and what
the SQL server is doing
Then you query users on performance of the application and you monitor the
SBS box
If they say its running fine...back it down abit...is it still running fine?
If they tell you from the start that its bad...bump it up...how is it
now...and so on
Its a painstaking process to find the sweet spot.

I did the same search and found the same blogsite as you. I guess I'm
comforted to know that many people are asking the same question. But
where's the suggested numbers? Many of the comments on the blog ask the
same question: "how much memory to set as the maximum?" But there's no
answer.
Is there a Microsoft recommended memory size or a suggested method for
determining the maximum memory size?

It's well known that SQL takes as much memory as it can, and several
experts tell us to manually set the memory size to xxx. But what number
should I use for xxx? I often see "100" as the example. I assume this
means 100MB. But why that number? How could I be more methodical in
picking a number? In the SQL 2005 Enterprise Manager that comes with the
Premium Edition, I can pick a SQL instance, choose properties, and
select the 'Memory' page. Can I get the same result by entering 100 in
the field called "Maximum server memory (in MB)"? What is the recommend
Maximum and Minimum for:
MSFW
WSUS
SBSMonitoring
SharePoint
Thanks for your help in fixing the slowness of some services.
