Re: Installing 2nd processor in SBS 2000 machine...

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I have successfully installed (well no errors anyway!!!) the 2nd processor,
but task manager still only shows 1 cpu when you look at the cpu usage and
performance etc... Is this typical ? Does it somply combine the two? I
thought it would show two distinct processors there...

The HAL is set for ACPI multiprocessor PC.

sounds like you have a single hyperthreaded CPU in place now which means
you are already running a SMP HAL, plug the 2nd processor in, turn on,
task manager should list 4 processors.

You've ascertained you need a 2nd processor how? SBS is not normally
processor intense, RAM and HDD IO is normally more pertinent.

We currently have a Dell SBS 2000 server running Exchange and SQL Server.
We have purchased and are installing a 2nd processor into this machine.

My question is this... Some PC Utilities and even SQL server already show
the server as having two processors (right-click and select properties on
the appropriate server group in SQL server enterprise manager and it
shows number of processors = 2) when it does indeed only have ONE
processor installed. I know for SQL server that this is definately by
design.

However, what will happen when it actually does have two processors??? Am
I going to have to make some configuration changes to SQL server
configuration etc.. (and whatever else) so that it will properly use two
physical processors??

Help!

Thanks, Brad
