Is the old hardware good enough to handle SBS 2003? You can off course do a
direct upgrade but many of us prefer not to do that because of possible
accumulated garbage on the SBS 2000. A good alternative to get a clean
migration is to use the swing migration method as found at
www.sbsmigration.com. It is well worth the cost for the comprehensive
documentation, tools, and support you receive.

OEM is bound to the hardware, while Open can be moved, and with SA can be upgraded and downgraded so that you are protected from device drivers, non conforming third party applications, and EOL hardware. ... If you have SBS 03 Open, and your server is failing/failed, you can move it to 64 bit hardware and wait for Brooktrout or whomever to produce 64 bit drivers. ...
