Re: Move home folders to new member server

Gentlemen,

I appreciate your input. I'm realizing that the "simple" task of moving user
folders to another server is not so simple in an AD-world. My plan of attack
was going to be to copy all home folders to the share on the new server,
redirect folders to \\new servername\new sharename in GP, have everyone log
in, and be done with it. (The security permissions for the share on the new
server are set exactly as it was on the share on the SBS box). This won't
work?

Also, I must have missed something, but Merv mentioned the Add User Wizard.
I'm assuming you're warning me that if I use Robocopy as John Oliver
recommended to do this move, then it would break the Wizard. Am I correct?

You will need to make sure Security permissions are set correctly for the
user home folder directories. You can use Robocopy to copy the
directories and security permissions from SBS to Win 2003 server.

I've set up a new member server running Windows Server 2003 Standard. It

be used as a file server. My SBS 2000 server is DC, DHCP, DNS, Exchange,
ISA,
etc. I have all user folders pointing to the SBS box with the UNC \\SBS
servername\sharename\username in group policy and in each user account.
What's the best way to redirect all user home folders to the new share on

2003 server? Other than changing the path to the new share on the new

in group policy, what else would I need to do to accomplish a smooth
transition?
