Merv,
Thanks for your reply. You are correct. I remember now that that Wizard
stopped working for me a while back and that is why I got into the habit of
adding users manually in AD. It must have stopped working after I moved the
Company and Users Shared Folders to another partition on the SBS box.
I suppose you and KB294667 are saying that I need to recreate these folders
with the default permissions on C:\ of the SBS server even if the user and
company shares are being hosted on another server to get the Add User Wizard
working again.
I copied my home folder to the new server as a test case and pointed my
shortcuts to the new location. I haven't made any changes in GP. Folder
redirection for all users in GP still points to the SBS box and everybody
still has the assigned drive Z:\ pointing to their user folder. Should I go
ahead and first copy all user folders over to the new server and then make
the change in GP and Z:\ after or make changes in GP and Z:\ first and then
copy all the home folders over? Does it matter how I do this?
Thanks again.

How to Move Small Business Server 2000 Company and Users Shared Folders
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329640
--------------------------------
SUMMARY
By default, the Company Shared Folders (share name:Company) folder and the
Users Shared Folders (share name:users) folder are created on drive C during
a Small Business Server (SBS) 2000 installation. You can select the location
of these folders during Setup to set the folder name and destination drive.
If you have to move the folders later, you must move them manually. This
article describes how to manually move these folders.
Note These folders must reside on the SBS server, not in another network
location.

Gentlemen,
I appreciate your input. I'm realizing that the "simple" task of moving
user
folders to another server is not so simple in an AD-world. My plan of
attack
was going to be to copy all home folders to the share on the new server,
redirect folders to \\new servername\new sharename in GP, have everyone
log
in, and be done with it. (The security permissions for the share on the
new
server are set exactly as it was on the share on the SBS box). This won't
work?
Also, I must have missed something, but Merv mentioned the Add User
Wizard.
I'm assuming you're warning me that if I use Robocopy as John Oliver
recommended to do this move, then it would break the Wizard. Am I correct?

Here's a KB article with the details of the required permissions.

You will need to make sure Security permissions are set correctly for
the
user home folder directories. You can use Robocopy to copy the
directories and security permissions from SBS to Win 2003 server.

I've set up a new member server running Windows Server 2003 Standard.
It
will
be used as a file server. My SBS 2000 server is DC, DHCP, DNS,
Exchange,
ISA,
etc. I have all user folders pointing to the SBS box with the UNC
\\SBS
servername\sharename\username in group policy and in each user
account.
What's the best way to redirect all user home folders to the new share
on
the
2003 server? Other than changing the path to the new share on the new
server
in group policy, what else would I need to do to accomplish a smooth
transition?
Thanks for your help.
