Re: OWA using SSL

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Hi,

As far configuring the OWA on SSL in SBS 2000 in concerned you will need to
buy a SSL certificate from trusted root authority or install the CA on your
own SBS Server for the whole enterprise, create a certificate request and
submit that request to get a certificate from your own CA.

once it is done than you would need to modify the isp page to redirect the
request automatically to a https page since there are no ISAPI filters
present.

you can a look at following /kb articles as well:

KB 327544 - if you take a cert. from trusted authority.

KB 299525 - if you want to use your own CA

Apolgies for those of your (especially Merv !) who've read this before,
but I'm still not clear on a couple of points.

I am trying to provide access to Outlook via OWA (sitting on an SBS 2000
box) from outside of the office, but without having to connect via our
VPN first. Since opening port 80 is such a bad idea, the only other
current option I have is to configure OWA to use SSL, and provide
(relatively) secure access that way.

Now I've read this article.....
Configuring OWA on SBS 2000 to use SSL
http://www.smallbizserver.net/Articles/tabid/266/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/95/Configuring-OWA-on-SBS-2000-to-use-SSL.aspx

However, I'm not sure what other implications there are, if I go ahead and
make the changes suggested in that document.

We have an Intranet site, for our office-based staff, that is server via
IIS on our server.
Is that going to be affected by these changes ?

Also, are there any other areas I need to be aware of, that may become
affected by these changes ?

Finally, if a problem should arise, can I easily roll back to the current
configuration ?

Many thanks,

Ian.
