Any version of BEX after 8.6 should work just fine. You will however need
an agent to backup Exchange.(& SQL if you need to) Backup Exec is not
"Exchange aware" NTBACKUP is Exchange aware. Veritas did have an "SBS
version" of BEX for a while, this had all the agents needed for SBS, a few
limitations, and a cheaper price tag.
I am guessing that the Dell version that "did not work" was probably BEX
8.6 without any optional agents. This would have backed up files, but not
Exchange. Exchange if not backed up, in it's default configuration rapidly
generates a heap of 5Mb log files, eventually taking up all your servers
free space & killing it in a variety of interesting ways.
