This is actually an upgrade for us - from an old server to
a new one (the old one is still running, thankfully). On
the old server we also had two 3Com server NICs doing load
balancing and fail-over - they worked fine. In a previous
iteration through this process I did get the NICs set up
with load-balancing and fail-over and it seemed to work OK.
I could unplug one NIC and things kept communicating, plug
it back in and unplug the other and things kept going.
The IP config on the server as it is now is:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix: . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.20.99
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.10.1
The gateway address is the address I defined for our
firewall/router/VPN device. When things are set up, the
onboard NIC will have an address of 192.168.10.99 and will
send things to the firewall/router.
