Mike,
The post was post dated deliberately so it would remain current for the
whole week and new posters would see it at the top of their list.
Those that have already seen the post will no doubt flag it as read and
hide it and those that -never- want to see it again as Ignore. ( as
stated at the bottom of the post ).
The fact that it was to be posted "Post Dated" was outlined in my
initial post asking for input on the community FAQ.
http://www.google.com.au/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&threadm=ehuS7J6aEHA.2840%40TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fas_q%3DFAQ%26safe%3Dimages%26ie%3DUTF-8%26as_ugroup%3D*.sbs%26as_uauthors%3DCraven%26lr%3D%26hl%3Den
I see this as a better alternative than more frequent postings. We have
used it for years on comp.databases.ms-access and it has proven to work
well not only without any inconvenience to the readers but rather as a
benefit due to it's visibility.
If there is some rule violation in doing this on the ms.public
newsgroups, or if the community feels strongly that the this would be in
some way detrimental or undesirable, than please advise and comment on
what might be considered an optimal posting interval. - Given the number
of posts in the Newsgroups ( 8.sbs in particular ) I don't believe new
Usenet users are going to see more than 1 to 2 days worth of posts on
their screens, and being new users are unlikely to download more and
scroll back through the posts and thereby come across the FAQ.
As with the FAQ content itself, it's a community thing, and open for
community input. I'm not hard and fast on the posting date. I only
posted that way because it has worked well in another busy technical
forum over the years.
