Chris,
I have XP Pro SP1 on my laptop.
I ordered the SQL Developer Edt (approx $47 US from CDW.com) (which came
with the Reporting Services for Developer Edt already bundled by Microsoft)
and Visual Basic.net 2003.
I installed VB.net with no problems.
I installed the SQL Server Developer, SQL Server SP3a (which was included),
imported a database from my production SQL Server and verified that
everything looked ok.
When installing Reporting Services, the only problem I had was that I hadn't
remembered to start my default website in IIS. Canceled the install,
started the website, re-ran the setup for RS and everything checked out
fine.
I started VB, created a new RS Project, ran through the New Report Wizard
and was impressed by how easy it was to get a basic report up and running on
my laptops web server.
The SQL Developer / Reporting Services and vb.net on my laptop works pretty
well from a programmers/designer standpoint.
I am just a beginner in VB.net and SQL , so here is where I'll have to leave
you to others in the reporting services ng for more advanced questions.
As to SBS, I am too chicken to try and install on that just yet. I want to
do some more reading on the Domain Controller issue.
Feel free to email me with your experience of installing on SBS, just remove
the dot from behind the c in my email address.
