All,
Yesterday I installed 3 new 36gb HDs to my SBS 2000 system.
This system has a RAID 5 setup using a PERC 3/Di controller card.
The three original disks are 3 * 18gb (I know,
I should have installed the same size new drives to match the existing
ones, but Dell sent me these drives instead and said it didn't matter)
I powered down the system. Installed (added) the 3 new drives and watched
the
system chug through reconfiguring the RAID 5 disk. After completion,
I now have six drives has part of the RAID 5 system. On each of the
new 36gb drives, there is now 18bg of unallocated disk space.
I originally thought I could add the new disks to the system (RAID 5) and
gain additional disk space for my existing disk 0 (which is divided into
three
volumes: C:, E:, and F: Each one of these has been converted to a dynamic
disk), but
I am unable to extent the volumes.
How do I gain access to the new disk space? And have I completely lost
access to
the "unallocated" disk space on the new drives?
Based on reading some postings it appears that my choices are limited:
1. I won't be able to extend the volume since I converted the original
volume from a basic disk to a dynamic disk
2. I need to completely reinstall (define) the disk array from scratch.
Any insight into what I can and can not do would be extremely help.
Thank you,
THomas J. Kroljic
