Re: SBS 2003 - Hal.dll Getting Corrupt

Sorry Michael, I was on vacation and I didn't check any of my emails until
now. I ran the chdsk and it didn't find any thing wrong. So far I
disconnected two of my external hd's to see if it is one of them. So far no
crashes, so I am starting to believe that it is one of those hd's. which
one... don't know.

I'll keep you updated if this problem pop-up again.

Thank You for your help.

How did you go ?

Hi Michael,

No, I haven't changed any hardware on the machine. I checked the log and I
couldn't find anything there. I am using RAID, but there is no error when
the BIOS bootup. I ran a chkdsk the first two times that this happened to me
and it didn't gave me an error message. But, I am planning to run a chkdsk
sometime this weekend and see is there is any type of error message.

Hello,

this can be caused by a number of things. Lets do some digging.

Have you changed any hardware or drivers recently ?
Have you checked your eventlog to see if anything is reporting an error?
(before the failure in particular, review the eventlog)

Are you using hardware raid ? Does it have the ability to report errors
in its bios (at bootup)

Have you run a chkdsk over the disk media?

Thanks

i am having a really big problem lately. i have a sbs 2003 and every so
often in the last month my hal.dll has been corrupt and/or deleted. i am
receiving the following error message

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file."

and i tried to do the tutorial that are online but no luck yet. what i've
been doing in order to resolve this problem would be reinstalling the OS and
it works fine for a while but then goes back to have the hal.dll corrupt.

any ideas what it could be causing the problem?

thanks in advance

NOTE: i remove all of my external hd's out until i figure out what the
problem could be.
