Re: SBS Monitoring Install : KB555432

Hi Ian:

You may get more response in the SBS 2003 Newsgroup.

SBS public Newsgroups:

SBS 4.x: microsoft.public.backoffice.smallbiz
SBS 2000: microsoft.public.backoffice.smallbiz2000
SBS 2003: microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs

if your current news server does not carry the mentioned groups you should
be able to connect directly to news.microsoft.com

Hi,

I have an SBS server with some issues, which I would appreciate assistance
with.

The first issue is that the Monitoring is not working. I have restored
the
server to a test machine, and it exhibits the same issues as the live
server.
I would like to document a "fix process" for this monitoring issue.

When attempting to setup monitoring I get the following message :-

"The Wizard encountered an error while configuring the monitoring
features.
Run Small Business Server Setup re-install the server tools component and
then run monitoring configuration wizard again".

When attempting to re-install the monitoring compontent I followed
KB555432
but would like to point out that the "install" option is not available
until
the component has been "removed" first - rebooting inbetween.

Running the setup - I get an error and looking at the install log under
the
monitoring directory /logs :-

2007-12-30 18:57:44.78 spid3 index restored for msdb.sysjobs.
2007-12-30 18:57:44.78 spid3 index restored for msdb.sysjobsteps.

2007-12-30 18:57:51.15 spid51 Configuration option 'allow updates'
changed from 1 to 0. Run the RECONFIGURE statement to install..
2007-12-30 18:57:51.40 spid3 SQL Server is terminating due to 'stop'
request from Service Control Manager.

I'd like to know how to get monitoring installed and working properly.
I am using SBS2003 with SP1 media and the server has KB832880 applied.

Regards

Ian.
