I posted this 3 weeks ago and got a few responses:
Hi There -
This SBS 2003 install has been runnning fine for a few years now and then
all of a sudden the backups started failing with the following errors in the
NTbackup log:
________
The 'Microsoft Information Store' returned 'Error returned from an ESE
function call (d).' from a call to 'HrESEBackupRead()' additional data
'-'The 'Microsoft Information Store' returned 'Error returned from an ESE
function call (d). ' from a call to 'HrESEBackupRead()' additional data '-'
The operation was ended.
Then when I looked in Event Viewer I found this in the Application log:
________
Event Type: Error
Event Source: ESE
Event Category: Logging/Recovery
Event ID: 474
Date: 8/17/2007
Time: 1:47:04 AM
User: N/A
Computer: BACSBS
Description:
Information Store (4448) First Storage Group: The database page read from
the file "E:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.edb" at offset
1395200000
(0x0000000053291000) for 4096 (0x00001000) bytes failed verification due
to a
page checksum mismatch. The expected checksum was 3672460058154888691
(0x32f732f72221edf3) and the actual checksum was 1462971515312433
(0x00053290997c9931). The read operation will fail with error -1018
(0xfffffc06). If this condition persists then please restore the database
from a previous backup. This problem is likely due to faulty hardware.
Please contact your hardware vendor for further assistance diagnosing the
problem.

________
We have done the following:
1) Cleared up space on the E drive that was under 1 gig of storage space
is now 13+ GB's.
2) Checked the RAID 5 array and made sure there were no errors being
thrown
on the RAID array, it was clean and is running optimal.
Does anybody have some guidance for us? We are at a loss at this point.
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Mike Johnson

So we are now aware that the Exchange DB is corrupt and we need to fix it,
we added a seperate RAID5 with (3) 76GB drives just to move the Exchange over
to. We are Exmerging the original install right now and then plan on eithier
reinstalling or moving, can someone give us some guidance on what KB would be
best.
Sincerely
Mike Johnson
