Thanks for your reply.
I am not familiar with SBS. I am with Server 2000. I was quit sure of the
answer before I posed the question, it is just that reading the manuals with
all the MS lingo Forests, trees, and roots makes my eyes bleed.
Thanks for your help and I will wipe out my SBS and re-install it as a
learning experience.

That's the only circumstances in which you can do it. You can only have one.
SBS per AD and when you add SBS to an existing AD it _must_ assume the FSMO
roles and there are other limitations (no trusts, the licensing service must
be on SBS...).
It sounds like you are not very familiar with SBS, jump across to the
correct newsgroup and aso have a look at

My existing servers are not Small Business Servers just plain server 2000.
Could I still do it your way?
Thanks in advance.

How to install Small Business Server 2003 in an existing Active Directory
domain
BTW
SBS public Newsgroups:
SBS 4.x: microsoft.public.backoffice.smallbiz
SBS 2000: microsoft.public.backoffice.smallbiz2000
SBS 2003: microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs
if your current news server does not carry the mentioned groups you
should
be able to connect directly to news.microsoft.com

Our company has a SBS 2003 Premium Edition server sitting not being
used.
We
already have a domain server and a file server.
I just want to be able to use the SBS as a file server. It has a
different
domain from the rest of our servers.
I can see the server with my network places and I was able to access
the
server before. That worked for 2 days. Now when I click on the server
I
get
the message:
"\\Server is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out
if
you
have access permissions.
The user name could not be found."
I am not presented with the option to login.
I either need to be able to map a drive from my network to the SBS
server
or
something else.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help.
