Hi Dan,
As far as I know...
Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Transition Pack
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/c/6/bc6a736b-faeb-43e1-ab61-17fed7f9ea40/PMUpgrade.htm
---------------------------------------------------
After you have migrated your server:
You will still be able to use the Windows Small Business Server tools;
however, they will no longer be supported and you will not be able to
reinstall or remove the tools.
You will no longer be able to run Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2
Setup to modify (add, remove, re-install) the server applications.
Your business will be licensed for one copy of Windows Server 2003 R2,
Standard Edition, and the standard versions of the server applications.
You will have five client access licenses (CALs) for each server
application. If you have more than five users, you must purchase additional
CALs for each of the individual server products. For information about
purchasing additional CALs, see the individual server product pages at the
Microsoft Web site (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=16457).
----------------------------------------------------
So, after the base upgrade using the Transition Pack software, you will end
up with 5 CALs each for: Windows Server 2003, Exchange 2003
According to the literature, the SBS 2003 R2 Premium Transition Pack does
not provide any SQL 2005 CALs, only CALs for Windows Server 2003 and
Exchange 2003, the same as with the SBS 2003 R2 Standard Transition Pack.
So no SQL CALs are "transitioned". To the best of my knowledge, there are
no ISA CALs after transition, just a standalone ISA 2004 server license.
Pricing for Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/howtobuy/pricing.mspx
Let's say you need 100 User CALs total after transition....
Since you have 70 User CALs - 5 that came with SBS 2003 and 65 that you
purchased, you would then need to buy 65 Transition Pack "USER" CALs. This
would "transition" your current 70 SBS 2003 R2 CALs. Then you would need to
buy an additional 30 (Retail or Open License) User CALs for Windows Server
2003 AND the same for Exchange 2003. You would also need to buy a full 100
SQL 2005 CALs if you need SQL access.
Now, the big question is: if you aren't currently at SBS 2003 R2, do you
need to first upgrade to SBS 2003 R2 before you can apply the SBS 2003 R2
Transition Pack? Maybe someone else can answer this.

Hello,
We have a SBS 2003 server with about 70 users and need close to 100.
How
does the licensing work with the transition pack? There is a 5 user
transistion pack that I was quoted about $1300.00 for, however, what
licenses
do I need to allow 80+ users?

Thanks very much,
Dan
