Re: Domain Change

John,

That is exactly the information I needed. The domain is eganll.com. If you
have other suggestions I would be appreciative. A record to mail.domain.com
makes sense!

The only A Record you will change is your WWW record and if you choose for
the none @yourdomain.com in case someone forgets the www.yourdomain.com. If
DYNdns.org is handling your External DNS, have them change this to your new
IP of the website. As for your MX Record, you should have an A Record
(mail.yourdomain.com) pointing to your existing IP pointing. The does not
change. Verify at www.dnsstuff.com or give me the domain and I can check
for you.

While I appreciate that response I am not confident in it as my mx points
to
domain.com and all my other services are set up as cnames. That being the
case is still correct that I will not have to change anything else?

You will have change your A Record IP for your www to the new IP the
website
company gives you. Leave everything else alone.

Ok...I have done some more research but am still confused. I have a
non-static IP and have to mange DNS through DynDNS.org I want to move
my
website to a third party but keep my exchnage, sharepoint, and OWA
running
on
my server. I believe I need to change my A record for my domain to the
new
IP. I am lost after that. Do I just need to make A records for each
of
the
additional services?

Help, skids.

Anna,

Thanks for the response. I manage my own DNS through DynDns.org as my
server has a dynamic IP.

Would I change the host CNAME for www.domain.com to the IP of the new
host?

Hi Jonyskids:

You are right about not hosting your public web site on your SBS
server.
Many known attackers use Port 80 to invaded the LAN and cause
mischief.

All you need to do is rent space on a ISP hosting service and FTP
your
public website there. Once it is in both places, have your ISP
change
the
DNS records for www.yourpublicweb.com to the ip address that you are
given
for your website by the web hosting service. The records for your
mail
stay
the same, assuming you don't want to move them also.

Once the ISP says he has made the change, open a command prompt and
type
"ping www.yourpublicweb.com". As soon as the numbers change you
can
close port 80 one your router, run the CECIW and un tick the box
about
hosting your web. Note that the ping command might only work from
your
server or from a system not attached to your SBS.

After some greater thought, I would assume that I need to change
my
MX
record? I am still a little lost on what I would have to change
on
my
server
and domain structure?

I currently have a SBS 2003 Standard machine that is hosting

sharepoint team services and our website. I have read many time

that I
should not host the website there. If was ti move the website
to
hosting
service how to migrate the domain but still collect email
through
my
exchange
and have access to sharepoint?
