an MX record _must_ point to a host name
If the ISP creates a host name and points an MX record, for the domain, to
it this is generally sufficient to receive email.
PTR (and increasingly SPF) records are becoming more necessary as time goes
by.

Hi Karl:Pop3 is a service in SBS, but you can purchase pop3 connectors
that will allow your exchange server to pop for mail and distribute it
inside of exchange.According towww.dnsreport..comYourMX record is pointed
as below. To use smtp mail, you need an A record, a MX record, and a ptr
record. And, if you can get one, an spf record.Ask your isp to do this
for you. Getting MX record for aimoffice.org (from local DNS server, may
be cached)... Got it!
Host Preference IP(s) [Country] aimoffice.org. 0 64.118.85.28
[US] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1: Try connecting to the following mailserver:
aimoffice.org. - 64.118.85.28
Step 2: If still unsuccessful, queue the E-mail for later delivery.
Note: if you enter an entire E-mail address (such as
postmas...@xxxxxxxxxxxxx), we will try to connect
to each mailserver to ensure that they are live and accept mail to the
aimoffice.org domain.NOTE: This tool does NOT attempt to determine if an
E-mail address exists! <youthmin...@xxxxxxxxx> wrote in

Hi Karl:
Can you either verify that your ISP has established MX and PTR records
for
your company, or that you are using a different kind of mail
retrieval, such
as a pop3 connector?
Also, if you post back your domian name we can check for you.
Also, if this is not Small Business Server, you might get better
assistance
in an exchange newsgroup.

Hello. I need help. I am part of a small, non- profit office which
has its own server on a Windows 2000 system running Exchange. I
don't
know a lot about it and it was set up by a person who no longer
works
with us but who knew what to do with it and how to maintain it.
Basically, after switching ISPs, our outgoing email didn't work
right. For some reason (quite frankly I don't know why) it has
started working but now the incoming email isn't working. It just
stopped. None of our 5 client comps is receiving any email from the
outside world, although each can now send email.
As I don't know Exchange very well, I need help. I am able to
follow
instructions but they need to be detailed.
Please Help. Thank you.

I will work to find out about the MX records from the ISP. From a
search on DNSStuff.com, there is no PTR record that exists.
Is the pop3 connector something on Exchange?
Domain name iswww.aimoffice.org.
The IP address from our ISP is 87.238.210.89.
It is the Small Business Server.
Thank you for any help you can give.

Anna,
Thank you again for your help. I just spoke with my ISP and they said
we could change our MX record to reflect our IP address with them
(87.234.210.89) and not just our host name and that this would help
with our problems. Any insights into this?
Thank you,
Karl
