Compression not working - SBS 2003 - BackupExec 10d - Dell Tape Unit

I cannot seem to get compression to work using the above hardware/software
combination. I've tried to use hardware and software compression to no
avail.

Tape drive: PV-100T-DAT72
Firmware ver: A060
Hardware compression: enabled

Backup Exec 10.0 Rev 5484
