Re: New to Networking

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

this may sound a little cruel but why would you accept a position/job doing
something for which you do not have the skills or knowledge to do properly.

Small Business Server is the ideal product for a church
www.microsoft.com/sbserver

The church would qualify for not for profit pricing on Techsoup

http://www.techsoup.org/stock/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=TechSoupMain&category%5Fname=Servers+MS&product%5Fid=LVS%2D2531&Cat1=Servers+MS&CatCount=1

They probably won't need a high end server so you probably get one from Dell
for under 1000. Do not get it with the Operating System pre-installed. Get
that from Techsoup Link above

But when you price your services, you should tell them you don't know the
product and you've never done this before, and in my opinion you should do
it for free, just for the experience.

Hello, I'm fairly new to networking. I do understand a little about
networking, But I've never set up a network other than for myself at
home sharing printers and wireless internet. I was offered a job to
set-up a LAN for a small church office, 4 - 5 users to start. The
network just requires running bookkeeping software and share printers
scanners and internet. I need to come up with a fair price for small
budget and Do you recommend setting up a server or P2P or wireless.

Also, please give me a brief over of what I need to set up a server

System speed, memory, hard drive size???
IDE or ???
Software????
Cable???
Router???

Thank you for your help!
