first of all. will the DSL device support an ethernet connection as well as
usb? If not you should contact the DSL provider for a different modem, one
that will.
Secondly if SBS detects a second dhcp server on the network it will shut its
own down...period.
To get around this you need one of the fairly inexpensive DLink, Netgear,
Linksys, or SMC (or one of the other brands) Cable\DSL routers.
Plug the ETHERNET connection from the DSL modem to the WAN side of the
Router.
Connect the LAN side of the Router to a second NIC in your server. Assign
the second nic a private IP address in the same subnet of your router, but a
different subnet from your SBS. Turn off the DHCP function of the Router
on the LAN connection side.
Re run the connect to the internet wizard.
If you had to install software on your server to support the DSL connection
(PPPoE), remove it and ensure the router you purchase supports the PPPoE
protocol and you will enter your username and password in the router and it
will handle what the software was doing...only better and probably without
causeing server issues.
This will eliminate your SBS DHCP server shutting down
