FYI, to all you SBS4.5ers left out there: the Proxy Server 2 update is not
always benign. After finding out that Henry Craven had a good experience
with it (uneventful, no restart), I went ahead and applied the recent PS2
update. First sign of trouble was an error message saying that the install
couldn't copy W3CACHE.DLL from the directory that the install itself had
created because it didn't have access permission to the directory it had
created. That seemed a bit wierd. I checked permissions on the directory.
They looked normal. The error said I should supply the "Proxy Server Install
Source" disk, which I couldn't find (don't know if I ever had anything
called exactly that). There was a dire warning about Proxy Server not
working correctly if you skipped a file, so I canceled the install, after
which I got an error about a partial install and then had to reboot the
machine anyway.
My fingers were crossed and double-crossed, but the machine came up fine and
all seems to be working well. I checked the files included in the update,
and they seem to be identical to the files already on my machine, so I don't
know what purpose the update would serve.
Caveat updater!
