how do I create a stock control database

sIm running a small shop and I need to have database of all stocks
available(eg jeans,ladies shoes,troussers), this should be such that, when I
sell an item, it reduces in the stocks. However Im having problems with
calculation. So, how do I make the stock database reduce as I make sales.
Please help
