No I did not take your remarks the 'wrong' way but noticed I failed to
mention that I actually had done the installs and they work for me. As for
97 on a Windows XP machine??? It's why I opted to leave my old WIndows 98
machine set up. And never did try to load Access 2.0 on 98 or anything
above that.
Allen Browne has a web site about Vista/ Microsoft Access issues, check out
http://allenbrowne.com:80/tips.html might be of some insight.

Thanks very much, Gina.
My post was "generic" and certainly not getting at you or anything else
(if
that's what you thought).
I have often had compatibility problems (e.g. A97 on WinXP falling over),
but
the newsgroup reports this runs fine and therefore I assume it's some
problem
or unusual feature of my app!
Since I already had an A2000 version of my app, which was current at the
time,
it was easier to just upgrade them than try to fix some pesky problem I
had
with A97!
Since that time, I have read reports that even A2.0 works fine at least on
WinXP (not aware of Vista reports).
Well, A2.0 DOES NOT WORK for me on WinXP. Who is right, me or the
newsgroup?
Neither. My app probably doesn't work because it has special dll's, and
again
it was easier for me to upgrade them to newer Access (since I had it
distributed already) than try and work out some pesky A2.0 problem.
I have not read, that earlier Access will not run on Vista. I HAVE read
(Tony
Toews) that there may be some issues or installation issues. I am
interested
in all such opinions.
I remain, that asking Microsoft what will or will not run on Vista is
probably
a waste of time. I would find it hard to believe, that they care very much
whether A2, A97, A2000, A2002, run or not, since their position
(naturally) is
to encourage upgrade.
I very much appreciate your feedback.
For myself, I'll wait and see what problems I actually come across, in my
circumstances. It seems to me, that the experience can differ amongst
developers, or their particular programs. Which makes your experiences
perfectly valid of course! (and valuable!)
Best Regards
Ta
Chris
