Hi Peter,
This error is normally the result of the User account not having adequate
permissions on the following registry keys:
Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0
HKey_Classes_Root
and/or
Hkey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0
Try giving the Users group Full Control to the above keys (note: don't
inherit parent permissions).
I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please
respond back to this posting.
Regards,
Eric Butts

| I'm trying to run a program which uses the Access 97
| runtime, and I'm on Windows XP on an NT Domain.
|
| I get the following error:
| "Can't be started. was unable to initialize the Windows
| Registry.
| Rerun Microsoft Access or Microsoft Office Setup to
| reinstall."
|
| The software works OK when I'm logged in as
| Administrator, but I get the error when I'm only
| a "normal user."
|
| I don't particularly want to give Admin or Power User
| rights to all of my users so that they can run this
| software.
|
| Anyone have any idea of the registry keys that need the
| extra permissions?
|
| Thanks in advance,
| Peter
