Hi Douglas!
With the last question concerning attachments of the new user I found the
answer. But with first one I have the problem. I copyied from my computer the
shortcut, the front-end database file. The back end file I placed on the
server together with Security.mdw. I made the changes on the shortcut path
and wrote as you sade to me. But still nothing works on other computers. I
get the error message efter I made the path changes that its not possible to
open the database controll the path and etc. I tryed to made another shortcut
and link to front-nd file but still nothing works. Efter I made workgroup
information file the front-end file is locked and can opens on my computer
only with help of security.mdw.
Can you help me please how to open font end file with workgroup information
file on other computers.? These path changes doesn't work.
With best regards,
Liilian

While it's possible to attach a new workgroup file to Access, the preferred.
method is to create a shortcut that includes the workgroup file. In that
way, you're not impacting the user's ability to work with other databases.
The shortcut must include the full path to msaccess.exe, not just the full
path to the mdb (or mde) file.
Where are you getting this prompt for "username and id number"? I have never
seen such a prompt from Access.

Hi!
I have some question concerning attachments of new users to the database
which has security.mdw. When I as administrator tryied to attach a new
user
then this new user can not logga in to the database. the user get the
error
message " you have not valid password". When I created user account for
this
user the database ask for username and id number but not the password. I
applyed the user rights to this user also. Do you know is it possible to
attach a new user to splitted database with Workgroup file?
Best regards,
Lilian

I don't understand what you mean that you can't find the front-end
database
if you've got a short-cut to it.

I undestand that I have to put the front -end database in client
computers.
My problem is I can't find it the front -end database efter splitting
of
the
database and making workgroup file with different user roles.
What I did are:
1. I made workgroup file with different user roles.
2. Then I splitted the database into front-end and back-end file.
Efter I got a shortcut till front-end file which is located on the
desktop
and back-end file which is located on the server together with
security.mdw.
Now I have to copy the front-end file to place it in client computers
but
it can't find. The only thing I can copy is security.mdw -and shortcut
.
If I don't make the workgroup file I can without any problem copy the
front-end file and placed it on client computers. Where is the
front-end
file
efter applying workgroup file? It becames only a shortcut. What I do
wrong
help me please.
Best regards,
Lilian

I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.
You should be putting a copy of the front-end database on each user's
machine. The workgroup file can remain on the server. Change the
details
of
the shortcut I indicated earlier so that it points to the front-end on
the
user's machine:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\MSACCESS.EXE" "C:\Some
Folder\Testversion.mdb" /WRKGRP"N:\StarHolding\Databases\Access
DB\Security4.mdw"

Hi Douglas J.Steele!
When I made workgroup file with different user role and then spitted
the
databaseI couldnot find the front end database file which I have to
install
to client computers. The back end file which contains only tables I
placed
on
server. Efter spitting the database with the workgroup file appeared
only
shortcut in my computer desktop, security.mdw file and bak. file wih
the
whole not spitted database. In my computer it was not problem to
logga
in
via
shortcut to the database. Where is the front end file? If I spitted
the
database without workgroup file appear both front end back end file
and
If
I
connected to client computters without workgroup file everything
works
the
database updates and so on. But with workgroup file the front file
disappears. Can somebody say to me the right procedure how to
connect
the
font file with security.mdw to client computers?

Can't log into the database, or does the shortcut plain not work?
The quotes in what you've presented are definitely incorrect, as is
the
slash before WRKGRP: what you should have should be
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\MSACCESS.EXE" "N:\
StarHolding\Databases\Access DB\Testversion.mdb"
/WRKGRP"N:\StarHolding\Databases\Access DB\Security4.mdw"
Of course, if your database is split, why are you opening a
database
on
the
network? Each user should have his or her own copy of the front-end
on
his
or her hard drive.

Hi!
I'v got some problem concerning the connection to splitted
database
with
created WRGRP file which is connected to the server. I created
the
shortcut
in target wrote I "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office12\MSACCESS.EXE"N:\ StarHolding\Databases\Access
DB\Testversion.mdb"\WRKGRP"N:\StarHolding\Databases\Access
DB\Security4.mdw"
In start in by default: Start in:"C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office12".
I placed the spitted file with be extend on the server and
unsecured
database file plus worgroup file Security4.mdw.
The other users can't logga in to database via these shortcut.
What
I
did
wrong can someone help me with advice? Otherwise the splitted
database
file
without wrkgrp file works perfectly.
I will be very appreciated for an advice.
Best regards,
Lilian
