RE: security wizard cannot be run

Thanks Joan, but the more I practise the more confused I get. I've tried
linking to a system.mdw and it won't let me reopen the database.

Using the secure.mdw I've been able to work out how to reactivate users
passwords, and all seemed to be going swimmingly until I tried to open the
database (which sits in a shared area on a network) from another user account
on the same PC and there was no request for passwords!!!

That makes access security the brightest thing since george W. Bush, so I'm
sure I'm doing something fundamentally wrong. Why does the security only seem
to apply to a particular users software rather than the database itself?

I've spent months working myself into a state of extreme confusion. I think
Microsoft should provide counsellors to help users cope with the stress!!
Surely security that is this difficult and illogical to apply is not in
itself very secure?!?!?

I'm facing imminent deadlines so any help is very much appreciated.

Thankyou all in advance!
D

It sounds like you didn't remove security properly.

Join the standard system.mdw workgroup file; create a new mdb and import all
objects from your mdb.

If that succeeds, then you can run the wizard, however I recommend that you
study up on security, and practice on a copy of your database until you are
confident.

Although the whitepaper is old, it contains information to help you
understand security.

I've also outlined the detailed steps at

I'm desperate - again!

I have a database that I have been working on for some time. I applied user
level security (my first ever effort) and found it to be a nightmare. Because
the database needed further development, I removed the security. Can't
remember exactly how as it was a trial and error method (5 million trials,
4,999,999 errors!!!). I further developed the app and now the time has come
to re-apply the security, but I get the error message "The security wizard
cannot be run on a database when you are both logged on as the Admin user and
the wizard has previously run on this database". Can't start the wizard.
Can't apply database password.

I managed to join to the original secure workgroup file and I now have some
level of access to the security features, but still cant set a database
password or get teh database to request a password for any of the users.

Any suggestions?
