So it looks like the plan is becoming finalized:
The main remaining issue is:
1) Send complete databases for updating of remote and server backend
files
2) Send incremental up to the server and complete down from the server
3) Send incremental updates both ways. Incremental update from the
server is
difficult to determine because there is no baseline database (other
than perhaps
a backup copy of the production backend).
It seems that from a speed point of view, incremental is the way to go.
From a
data latency point of view, full or complete is the way to go. Right
now it's
full database downloaded from the server to the remote PC and
incremental update uploaded
to the server.
While 1) has its appeal, I am concerned about speed. Zipping up the
files helps (factor of 8 to 10 reduction in size) but
I'm just not sure. I also have to consider that the decision that will
be made needs
to be made as a strategic plan and not a "one-off" for this group of
users.
