Get a MS server.

Unfortunately, this isn't possible right now. The company just
built their file server, and with the local real estate market the
way it is, investing in another piece of hardware and more
software just isn't feasible. Essentially, I have to work with
what I'm given.

This is a huge mistake. Jet just isn't designed to run on anything
but a Microsoft file system. There are important locking and timing
issues that can't be guaranteed to work the same when accessed
through SAMBA on a non-Windows file system.

There are Windows XP Pro desktops in the office.

If you can use one of them as a server, that would be an OK place to
put the data file.

Get a wired network connection.

This is doable as the client has a wired network, but it kinda
defeats the point of the whole project.

The project was obviously planned without anyone involved who knew
anything at all about how Access/Jet works.

How would one get started, and where would one look for
information on indirect replication??

It's complicated. Here's an outline of how to do it (all on one
line):
