Many thanks for replying, Peter :)

Re MSDE ... the downsides seems to be:

    a) that I think I need the SQL Server Enterprise Manager to ease the replication with MSDE ... and that means buying the whole SQL Server licence - which is a heck of a lot of money :(
I have the SQL Server Developer Edition (which infuriatingly doesn't work with Visual Studio unless I upgrade to the Enterprise Edition!) but am not sure if I could legally use this to replicate ... ?

    b) Also when I tried converting from Access to SQL the size of the Db quadrupled! I'm already tight on that 2Gb limit so this could be a major disadvantage for me.

MySQL would be a possibility except I don't think it has any replication utilities at all at the moment!

I think I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place!
