Queries and reports run slow

I have a user who is using Access 2000 to run reports and
queries. I am PC and user support technican for a
company, and although I have done quite a bit with the
other Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PP) I confess
to being next to clueless about Access; hence my question
may seem to be rather general.

The user is complaining that running queries and reports
(the files are on his local hardrive, not a network) can
take 5 minutes or more on his PC. He is using an IBM
desktop with a 2.2mhz Celeron cpu and 656 mb RAM. The
user thinks that this PC is inadequate for the task, hence
the slow performance.

Can anyone shed an opinion on this? Is the PC he is using
the culprit for slow Access performance, or is there
something else I should check first. Will upgrading to
Access XP or 2003 possibly help? I most truly appreciate
any help you can give me! Thank you!
