Corrupt Access DB

I'm working with a multi-user (front end and back end) Access DB that
has been behaving very strabgely recently, and I'm not sure why.
Symptoms include: rows in tables changeing to all ###s or to Chinese
or Russian characters, the table or query section being erased (i.e.,
the tables/queries I created all get wiped out, leaving only the
default Access icons), the error message "AOIndex is not an index in
this table," the "unrecognized database format" error message, and
others.

Obviously, this database has become corrupted. However, I can't seem
to fix it. I've compacted and repaired, only to have the problems
return quickly. I've also imported all of the database items into a
blank Access database and rolled that version out to the users, but
the problems still come up. Does anyone have other suggestions for
me?

I'm using Access 2003 on an XP Pro system. This database worked well
for several years, and it's only been in the last few weeks that it's
become very difficult to work with.

Thanks,
Sam
