John,
Now this is a perfect example of what a thread should be. The OP has a
problem that obviously he/she can not solve alone. Through this thread the
OP now has two options. You provided some very good links for the OP to
begin getting up to speed with Access. The OP can choose this option if
he/she has an inordinate amount of time to spend on the Access learning
curve. If the OP wishes to get a database up and running as soon as
possible, the OP can choose to have me create the database for him/her for a
modest fee.

I am trying to design a simple to use, attractive database to enter
contact
information and keep a phone log for correspondance with parents regarding
their students in a K-12 environment.
I would need to have parent names (first and last), work phone, home
phone,
cell phone, student names (first and last), grades, cell phone, and a way
to
automatically time and date stamp any phone calls I made, as well as a
place
to put expanded notes.
I found a template for sales calls, but it's not quite what I need and I
don't know how to modify it. No one I know has experience with Access (I
am
using 2003) so I am on my own.
Any ideas? Database design is new to me, and I am confused by the
definitions of tables and forms. I tried using the wizard, but I don't
think
I am doing this right. HELP!
Here's some links to free resources that may give you a start. Crystal's
and
Allen's tutorials should give you an overview of how to proceed. The first
thing to get into your thinking is "Normalization" - proper structure and
relationships for your tables. The sales calls template may give you some
of
what you want but surely it doesn't incoroporate family relationships, so
you
will need to add some tables.
