How can I ensure that the format is kept in a "Ref"-field?

I've made some template for my collegues. In the first page there are some
text fields for name, subject, date etc. On the subsequent pages I've put
Reference fields in the header that repeat the information. These are set to
keep their format when updated but only do so partially. If the subject, for
instance has three words, the third word doesn't keep it's format (8pt) but
changes to 10pt, which is how the text field on page one is formatted.

Please help,

Mirco.
