Slow to open form in design view

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I have a form in my database that has a good deal going on with it.
Its built on a simple query but has a few sub forms on it.

What I don't understand is why it takes so long to open the form in
design view? It never used to take this long. Its gotten slower over
time. It also takes a long time to save the form and often after
changes will get corrupted. When I'm in the form vba code and
compile, the screen flashes like a strobe for a few seconds before its
done. It doesn't do this on other forms.

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Any ideas what could be
wrong or is this normal?
