Conditional formatting of Listbox rows ?

I'm trying to use conditional formatting in a listbox but the option is
greyed out. I'm using Access 2003. What I have is a listbox containing many
dates. Some of the dates are required and some are optional. I'd like to make
the required ones red and the optional ones black. Is this possible ?
