Access form locks-up during load 1 time out of 10

Hi,
I've got a database running at a clients that is an Access 2000 SP-1 ADP,
connected to SQL 2000 SP3. Access is on Windows 98 SE client machines, SQL
on a Windows 2003 SBS Enterprise.
On one of the forms used for product management will load 9/10 times ok -
only 1125 records. However, one time it will load and in the record counter
at the bottom stop at say 100. At this point access locks and needs to be
terminated in task manager, or the PC rebooted.
Any ideas what might cause this? I've even tried turning off the Sohos virus
checker on the ADP. If the same form is opened with a filter specified so
only one record is shown they never see a problem. It occurs on a number of
workstations.
I haven't tried an updated to SP3, as the fixes documented for this don't
seem to have a solution to this problem - and I didn't what to cause any
others.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be the cause of this issue?
