    Sure, the above makes sense to develop on the same
    platform that you wish to distribute your software.

    Oh no!, that is a big mistake. The WHOLE IDEA here is
    to ensure that you crated the package on the SAME
    platform. By moving the software to a new platform,
    and THEN creating the final distribution, you have
    lost all value to the advice given to you! (you are
    now creating the FINAL software for distribution
    on a DIFFERENT platform, and this was
    exactly what the advice was telling you to avoid!).

    Well, as mentioned, since you actually were building the
    software on the XP box, then the 98 boxes where
    make completely irrelevant in the process. So, you might
    as well develop on the XP box....since all along you
    have been making your software on the xp box anyway!!
